Love Grows Here

Join us in the journey of loving God and neighbor

Welcome to Conway First United Methodist Church. For over 150 years, we have been a congregation seeking to follow the way of Christ in Conway, Arkansas and desiring to see God’s love grow among us. Each generation in the church has experienced the freeing grace of God and have shared that love with others.  Today we are a result of the ministry of those who have gone before us. Building off their ministry, we seek to embody God’s love in Christ and invite others to join us in this mission. We believe that God’s love is what will change the world as it has already changed our lives. And so we envision a world changed by the love of Jesus Christ and desire all to experience the unconditional, freeing, empowering love of God. We stay active in our community serving the least of these through ministries like our Food Pantry, supporting local entities that create a more loving world, and continually asking where does God need us. We simply state this vision and mission with our slogan, “Love grows here.”

Our Mission

We believe our mission is to cultivate faithful and fruitful disciples of Jesus Christ. We seek to do this in compassionate and inclusive ways.  All are invited to join in this journey because we believe God loves the entire world.

Who are we at the Core

Our Core Vision

To be a growing congregation of faithful and fruitful disciples who are alive in the grace of God, rooted in love of Christ, and who branch out to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Our Core Values

As a congregation, we value graciousness, generosity, and growth.  With God’s guidance, we strive to cultivate the virtues of compassion, respect, hospitality, and a commitment to bear the fruit of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, Faithfulness, and Self-Control.

Our Core Identity

We are a community of open hearts and open minds, built upon the love of God as revealed through Jesus Christ and cultivate through the continuing work of the Holy Spirit.  We accept people wherever they are on their faith-journey and believe that a variety of perspectives helps all of us to grow.  We come together, not to agree on everything, but to learn how to love, forgive, bless, and honor one another.  In this way we practice for our place as citizens of God’s expansive kingdom which is always bigger than our finite perspectives.  While we proclaim the core doctrines of the Christian faith as given to us through the scriptures and historic creeds, we are also willing to ask questions of interpretation, to struggle with difficult issues, and to engage one another with respect and compassion.  As John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement once said, “As to all opinions which do not strike at the root of Christianity, we think and let think.”
