Stuart Holt

Associate Director of Music — Praise Band Leader

Stuart Holt has been obsessed with music since he first picked up a bass guitar many years ago, and that obsession has only become more intense since joining the original Good News Celebration Praise Band here at Conway FUMC. The first place he ever played with a band in front of an audience was at a youth dance at Markham Methodist Church in Little Rock in 1967. He remembers being “terrified, but hooked.”

He went on to play professionally with many bands over the years, as well as working in other areas of the music business. In a change of profession, Stuart was a newspaper photographer for several years and later owned his own photography studio in downtown Conway.

The biggest musical change in his life came when the GNC Praise Band formed and he was introduced to contemporary Christian music. It was an eye opener, and he knew he wanted and needed to be a part of that musical community.

He has played bass in the GNC Praise Band since its inception, and served three times as interim director before being named an associate music director and director of the praise band.

He enjoys time at home with family and an assortment of pets. This includes three dogs and a bearded dragon - none of which belong to him - but he loves them anyway. Cooking and brewing are some favorite hobbies. Mexican food is a long-time favorite - Las Palmas is the go-to there – and Buffalo Wild Wings, Razorback Pizza and Rogue Roundabout are other favorites.
